Portersville Christian School is Butler County’s only fully accredited, PK-12th grade, private, Christian school. We are dually accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.
Portersville Christian School has been blessed to have educated hundreds of children in partnership with parents and the church since 1963.
With our 50th year in sight, we are encouraged by the blessings God continues to pour out on PCS as we walk in the way He has planned for us.
We encourage you to explore all that we have to offer students and families who decide to make Portersville their school. Along with that, we welcome you to join us in this walk of faith as we educate tomorrow's Christian leaders.
We are located just a mile east of I-79 at the Portersville exit in Butler County, Portersville Christian School is a short, easy drive from Cranberry Township, in the Northern suburbs of Pittsburgh, to Grove City in Mercer County, and is just minutes from Butler, New Castle, Slippery Rock, Ellwood City, Zelienople-Harmony and anywhere in between. We provide bus transportation to students living in most nearby school districts.
We offer the families who send their children our way several advantages:
Christian Distinctives
At PCS, the truths of God’s word are not only taught through weekly chapel worship experiences and Bible courses, but are also integrated into every subject area. Our educational philosophy acknowledges God as the creator and sustainer of the universe, and the source of all truth and knowledge. Education is the process of discovering God’s revelation as our students study history, math, science, language arts, foreign language and music and learn how to practically apply their knowledge. Our desire is to help our students be prepared for college and career as well as for service in the body of Christ.
Academic Excellence
PCS students consistently score well above state and national norms on achievement tests and college entrance exams. Our 2010 SAT scores were 525 for writing, compared with 480 for Pennsylvania and 492 nationally, math was 561 compared to 501 for Pennsylvania and 516 nationally, and reading was 541 compared to 492 for Pennsylvania and 501 nationally, placing PCS students among the highest achievers in the region. The Stanford Achievement Test scores of our students are consistently in the top quartile nationally.
College Credit
Our students can earn college credit during their junior and senior years in high school through both dual credit courses and Advanced Placement courses.
Small Class Size/Multiple Course Offerings
When it comes to education, small class sizes give students a distinct academic advantage. Our secondary level classes, with few exceptions, have 15 or fewer students, and our elementary classrooms rarely exceed 18 students. Our secondary students can take advantage of a wide range of course offerings, including foreign language choices in Spanish, French and Russian, mathematics through Calculus, Physics and Chemistry in a fully equipped lab, music choices in band and choir, and six levels of computer technology education. Elementary students have band, choir, art, physical education and computer.
Fine Arts
High School students at PCS have the ability to be involved in a stage production each semester, which includes a fall play and a spring musical. PCS has become known for the excellent quality of our musical productions. Students may also participate in choir in middle school and high school, and in elementary and high school band programs.
Athletics
Our competitive athletic program involves students from fifth grade through high school in soccer, volleyball and boys and girls basketball, and track and field. The high school participates in competitive sports through SWCAC (South West Christian Athletic Conference) and the junior high level teams participate in the GPCAL (Greater Pittsburgh Christian Athletic League).
Affordability
PCS is among the most affordable private, Christian schools in the region, with very reasonable tuition and fees. This is a byproduct of the school community’s commitment to Christian education involving hours of volunteer time by parents and personal sacrifices by teachers in order to make it happen. Financial assistance is also available to families who qualify.
